China will work with Fiji to consolidate political mutual trust, expand practical cooperation, deepen people-to-people exchanges and promote the continued growth of the China-Fiji comprehensive strategic partnership, says Chinese ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian.
Mr Zhou said this was evident in a recent meeting Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka had with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the margins of the APEC Economics Leaders Meeting in San Francisco.
He said this was also President Jinping’s first meeting with Mr Rabuka and the first between the two leaders since the Coalition Government took office.
“The meeting relived one historical friendship, which is the deep friendship between China and Fiji,” Mr Zhou said.
“A few days ago, the two countries celebrated the 48th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.”
He said over the past half century, China-Fiji relations had withstood the test of the changing international landscape, and made substantial progress, contributing to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
“Prime Minister Rabuka pointed out that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Fiji and China, our bilateral relations have experienced continued strong growth.
“Fiji greatly appreciates the considerable support China has provided to the country and other Pacific Island countries.”
Mr Zhou said China would work with Fiji to consolidate political mutual trust, expand practical cooperation, deepen people-to-people exchanges and promote the continued growth of the China-Fiji comprehensive strategic partnership.
He said the meeting between the two leaders had pointed out the direction for the future development of China-Fiji relations, added impetus to China’s practical cooperation in various fields and further opening a new era of China-Fiji cooperation.
