The Punjas Battle of the Giants which ended at Churchill Park in Lautoka was a success with the inclusion of many young talents in the senior district squads.

Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said the teams did not let their fans down with their standard of football.

Yusuf said the fans also turned up in numbers to support their teams.

“National coach Flemming Serritslev was impressed with the young players that represented the district teams,” he said.

“These young players have shown their class. I firmly believe that the movement of players from the youth team to the main senior team shows that the development program in Fiji is on par.

“These young boys get a chance to play alongside the experienced players which develops their fitness and skill level.”

The district teams also missed their under-19 players who are part of the Fiji team which will participate in the Oceania Football Confederation Championship which will start at the Stade Vélodrome Dr. Pierre Cassiau in Papeete, Tahiti from September 8.
