Youths get safety at sea training

Update: 1:40PM A BOAT Masters’ training facilitated by the Maritime and Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) and coordinated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports was held from March 12 -23 in Navolau, Rakiraki aimed at creating awareness among participants on regulations and safety measures while at sea.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Laisenia Tuitubou while officiating at the training encouraged around 80 participants to become self-reliant and utilise the knowledge gained through the training.

“I urge participants to be aware of safety measures while out at sea,” Mr Tuitubou said.

“There are laws regarding sea travel and precautionary measures that everyone must adhere to. This training also provides a pathway for youths to pursue further studies and have more opportunities to find employment as boat operators,” he said.

Mata ni Tikina Navolau, Apisalome Labalaba thanked the Government and the Ministry for the training opportunities. 

Participants came from as far as Wakaya Island, Nadi and from many coastal villagers in Ra.
