Youth league next on drugs testing

Players featuring in the National Youth League could become the next target for drugs tests by the Fiji Football Association.

The parent body has taken a strict approach in doping this year.

Random tests were carried out during the Vodafone Fiji FACT where four players tested positive. A total of 48 players were tested during the pool stage of the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants in Labasa last week, where one player returned with a positive result.

Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said the bans for the positive result varied.

Yusuf revealed that some players in the senior division had tested positive and had been banned.

“We have started testing the players in the senior division as well,” he said.

“There are a couple of players in the senior division who have tested positive. These players were from the Southern Division.

“They have been banned for one month. They will be retested and if they return with positive results then they will be gone. Maybe the youth players will be tested next.”
