Youth charged with rape appears in court

A 24-YEAR-old man charged with one count of rape appeared before the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.

It is alleged the man raped a 15-year-old girl from a village in Lomaiviti on February 2, 2019.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Joseph Dickson served full phase disclosures and objected to bail on the grounds that this was an indictable offence.

Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili has transferred the matter to the High Court in Suva and has remanded the accused.

The case has been adjourned to March 7.
