AN 11-year-old girl has piqued the interest of the public this past week because of her creative weaving skills.

Wainisiga Raluve has been occupying herself this holiday helping her mother weave elaborately decorated mats.

The Fiji Times caught up with her at Muana Village in Toga, Rewa, where she was busy designing a collection of mats for a wedding later this month.

She said she did not need training, the talent just “comes naturally”.

Her mother Makelesi Tinai said the young girl was one of the most skilled weavers in the village.

“It is important to teach this kill to our children, especially girls, because it could be a source of income for her one day,” Ms Tinai said.
