“The 400 metres qualifying time for the championships is 55.50 seconds.

“The Championships was also used as a qualifier for athletes vying for a place for the upcoming Melanesian in Efate, Port Vila, Vanuatu and the World Youth Games in Argentina. We will be taking a 10-member squad, the athletes names will be released next week.

“The short-listed athletes include St Joseph’s sprint queen Helena Young and Luisa Tubuilagi, Tailevu zone senior boys blue ribbon Jim Bolakoro, QVS intermediate boys champion Livai Maravou, ACS trio Serena Ragatu, Baravilala and Vilorena Naibena, Luisa Tubuilagi, Suva Grammar sprints champion Malasebe Tuvusa and Fane Sauvakacolo.”

“All short-listed athletes qualified on merit and whoever makes the cut will be representing Fiji for the first time.
