HE only took up bodybuilding two years ago and today he is the new Mr Suva.
Jekesoni Yanuyanudua won the Mr Suva Classic Bodybuilding Championship yesterday at the YMCA gym in Suva.
A total of 22 competitors participated in the event and 18-year-old Yanuyanudua was the surprise pick from other impressive builders.
Out of the competition was defending champion Inoke Ligairi who was ruled out because of medical grounds and Mr Fiji Lenitasi Biliwaqa who was ruled out because of work commitments.
Yanuyanudua said he was not expecting the win as some senior builders were also competing in the event.
“This is my first major win in the national competition and I am very happy to finally win a major title,” the Ono lad from Lau said.
“I only took up the sport two years ago when I was in Form 6. I was a runner but because of injury I was not able to run so I started lifting weights.
“That same year, I saw a poster for Mr Buksh bodybuilding competition and I decided to work hard to gain a good body for it and I participated.”
Yanuyanudua said his dedication saw him compete in the Oceania Championships where he won a gold medal in the junior category.
“Now my major target is the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea next year.
“And I would like to recommend it for young kids to take it up because it has helped me change my lifestyle, diet, fitness and discipline towards positive goals and I am sure it can help the other kids and youths as well.”
