XAVIER College leads the Ba Zone medal tally after day one winning 21 gold medals in the overall division at Lautoka’s Churchill Park yesterday.

The school also topped the girls and boys divisions with 13 and 8 gold medals respectively followed by A D Patel who finished second overall with 4 gold, five silver and five bronze medals.

Kamil Muslim College is on third spot with also four gold, five silver and two bronze medals.

Meet manager Daniel Krishneel said competing at the Lautoka’s Churchill Park gave the athletes a taste of what to expect in Suva.

He said this was the first time for the school to shift its competition to Lautoka and to allow their athletes to experience the synthetic tracks.

“This is a milestone achievement for us especially to have our first Ba zone on synthetic tracks and I believe it will really boost their performance,” said Krishneel.

“The students especially the track athletes are making the most of their time on the tracks showcasing their skills and this really lifted the standard of competition.

“Even those that missed out on the Coke Games will still have a feel of what the other athletes experienced during the Coke Games.”

He said Xavier College dominated the show yesterday and it would be interesting to see other schools compete in the relays and the 200m final later today.

The competition starts at 8.30am today.
