After two years, Walk On Walk Strong (WOWS) Kids Fiji returned to launching their shave or save fundraiser at their family fun day yesterday.
Joanna Friberg Lesuma, 44, has taken it upon herself to be the first nominee for the campaign.
“WOWS has been on my mind for a very long time,” she said.
“After hearing so many stories because I’ve always wanted to do more, but I am not rich enough to come up with a large sum of money and pass it on to WOWS.”
Having decided at a WOWS luncheon a few weeks ago, Mrs Lesuma along, with her daughter, Inez Lesuma, decided to raise $10,000 for the organisation.
“So I’ve decided that OK I am going to cut my hair and raise awareness for a few months to raise more and hopefully I can go beyond my $10,000 target. My daughter came to me the next day and said mum I am too scared to shave my hair, but is it OK if I cut my hair really short to help fundraise for the kids.”
Mrs Lesuma is thankful that her daughter took a bold step to help WOWS Kids.
“I am going to have a few fundraising drives, like a mother and child morning tea, disco night and then the day of my shave which is August 28 I will have another fundraising drive so that I can reach my target.”
She advises the public to come out and render support towards the organisation.
“If you think you have the time and money to donate please come forward and donate for a good cause.”
