KOSTA Tszyu, Jeff Fenech, Gairy St. Clair, Virgil Hill are just some big names in the sport of boxing. But what do they have in common?

They are all former world title holders and they were all trained by renowned boxing trainer Johnny Lewis.

The legendary trainer wants to help Fijian boxers improve.

He is an Australian Boxing Hall of Fame and returned home yesterday after spending a week here.

He watched the World Boxing Foundation Welterweight title bout last weekend in Nadi.

Lewis was in Suva yesterday for a meeting with Olympian, and Commonwealth Games medallist Winston Hill.

“Johnny Lewis had been training boxers around the time of Sakaraia Ve and Sunia Cama and with those ties, he wanted to come back to Fiji and give back to the sport of boxing,” Hill said.

“He was in Nadi last weekend in support of the boxing promotion there, and throughout the week he came to Suva, and had a look at the boxing gym (in Toorak) as well.”

Lewis even gave a few points for the Pacifc Games 2015 silver medallist.

“He was here yesterday (Tuesday) held pads for me and gave me tips and advice on how to further my boxing career, and also gave advice in the sport and outside.”

Lewis’s also visited the Fiji Police boxing team, preparing for the annual Sukuna Bowl tournament later in the year.

“About 60 boxers turned out to get information from Lewis. He’s looking to return in November for the Sukuna Bowl.”
