THE World Mosquito Program was officially launched in the Western Division last night.

While launching the program, Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said he was impressed with the program and looked forward to its impact in the West.

“The intervention is much-needed given the area’s reputation as a hotspot in Nadi and Lautoka for dengue outbreaks,” Dr Waqainabete said.

The second phase of the program involves introducing the Wolbachia method in Lautoka and Nadi.

The project was funded by the New Zealand Aid Program at more than $2.9million.
