World AIDS Day organisers urge people to get tested

AS we mark World AIDS Day today, organisers in the Northern Division have called on communities to get tested and know their status.
While many have willingly participated in the celebration, the organising committee has noticed that very few had the courage to get tested for HIV.
Organising committee member Asivorosi Tora said this year’s theme ‘Know your HIV Status’ aimed to encourage people to get tested and know their status.
“After the celebration in Labasa, we will move out next week to raise awareness in communities and carry out tests,” Mr Tora said.
“Our team will be in Bua, Cakaudrove and Macuata and will also visit government offices to conduct HIV tests as well.
“This test is entirely up to the individual but we are making it available for our communities and workers.”
Mr Tora said support from stakeholders had been positive over the past years.
