DRAINAGE works across the Western Division should be completed in about seven weeks, says Minister for Waterways Dr Mahendra Reddy.
“We have contractors undertaking huge drainage works across the division; from Sigatoka to Rakiraki and some will be completed earlier than others depending on the scope of work being carried out,” he said.
“We have re-prioritised our areas of work based on the flood data and that is how the contracts have been given out.
“Areas of high vulnerability to flooding will be conducted first, but I can assure the people in the West that we are taking this matter very seriously.”
Dr Reddy added that works in Votualevu in Nadi, Olosara and Kavanagasau in Nadroga and Saweni in Lautoka have started.
“There are massive contracts being pursued and Lovu HART and Lovu Flat in Lautoka will start today (yesterday).
“Works in Navakai, Nadi and also Rakiraki will begin shortly.”
Dr Reddy added that drainage works in the division were a priority because of the flood issues faced in various parts of the region.
