One week after the conduct of a secret ballot for strike action, employees of the Nadi Town Council who are members of the National Union of Workers – Fiji (NUW) will receive a cost of living adjustment (Cola) payout on Friday.

About 30 workers took the secret ballot to strike on September 21 that was supervised by the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations.

The industrial action was in regards to their log of claims for the years 2019 to 2022 and 2023, which was outstanding with the Nadi Town Council.

Last Friday, the Nadi Town Council agreed to pay the cost of living adjustment (COLA).

“Good news for our members at Nadi Town Council as they will be receiving cost of living adjustment back pay for the years 2019 and 2022,” said the NUW in a social media post.

“This comes after the union signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Nadi Town Council management at the NUW head office, Lautoka.

“Members are expected to receive a lump sum payment by October 6, 2023.”
