MORE emphasis needs to be placed on single mothers and women in general.

This is the view of Sainimere Maile, 26, a mother-of-two who is eager to cast her vote in this year’s election.

She said there were a range of issues faced by women that needed to be addressed.

This time around, she felt a certain kinship with National Federation Party (NFP) candidate Riddhi Damodar, who she says is someone who stands up for single mothers.

“I think she is inspirational,” she said.

Ms Maile said single mothers were often overlooked and they had an important role to play in society because they were both mother and father to their children.

As a mother of a seven-year-old and a five-year-old, she called for more assistance for single mothers.

“Sometimes, it gets very difficult to put children through school and very expensive to put food on the table so I hope this is something that can be looked into.”
