NATIONAL women’s football coach Marika Rodu will be keeping an eye out for potential players for the upcoming women tournaments, according to the Fiji Football Association.

The Vodafone Women’s Inter District Championship kicks off this Friday, January 25, at Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa.

“I will be following the selection process for the senior and U19 team for the national team commitment this year,” Rodu told FFA Media.

He said he would also monitor the performance of the present players.

“We will see the performance of the current players and also potential players and (it’s a) good opportunity to test them after the festive season.”

Rodu urged the senior players to help the upcoming players in the tournament.

“I would like to see the senior players guiding the new players, and at the same time perform an extraordinary performance to prove themselves and show the different calibre they have for those who have been in the national team last year so that the younger player may look up to them and be motivated to perform their best,” he said.

The former national rep said the tournament would be very exciting.

“The eight teams participating in this tournament have prepared well and I am sure it will be a good IDC.

“This will be a tough competition amongst the best eight teams.

“Ba has been the champions of women’s football in the country as they have won the title seven times but nothing could be taken from other teams as they all are preparing well.”

The 2018 Vodafone Women’s Inter District will be played from January 25-27.
