Women’s AFL final moved to new date

THE AFL Fiji’s women’s final was called off because of the rainy condition which led to the closure of the USP Grounds in Suva yesterday.

Qio Vula and Royal Eagles qualified to play in the final. AFL national coach Mike Leahy said they had no option but to postpone the final.

“We had to postpone the matches today because the weather was not our side,” he said.

“The grounds were closed but it will be played at a later date. It would have been surely an interesting match.”

He said the men’s second semi-final between Cats and Lions which was scheduled before the final is more likely to be played next Saturday.

“I cannot confirm anything at the moment. We might have the matches played next weekend,” he added.

“The ground for the matches has not been confirmed yet. “We would play the second semi-final early in the morning so that the team can play in the final on the same day.”

Meanwhile, the Swans Rerevaki footy team will feature in the grand final after the side defeated Lion Killa 114-90 in the first semi-final last weekend.
