LEADERSHIP, gender and financial training will be conducted for more than 150 market vendor representatives across 12 municipal markets in the country this year.

The first of the trainings was held in Lautoka this week, says lead consultant with the Commonwealth Local Government Forum, Akuila Masi.

“The whole week in training, we covered about seven topics which ranged from gender, leadership, we discussed conflict management, negotiation and how we can successfully run and organise our association,” he said.

“The best thing for us here is to realise that there are avenues that market vendors can raise their concerns through.

“For example, the market masters and through the Lautoka City Council and in order for them to do that, we have taught them a few techniques on how they can negotiate, how they can handle conflict and it is important for them to understand the bylaws.”

Mr Masi said they would conduct similar meetings in Namaka, Nadi, next week.

After this, the training will move across to the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
