PART of the Fiji Girl Guide Association’s strategic plan is to help communities develop by engaging members in income-generating projects.
Women from the Nakasi HART homes were part of a community income-generation project facilitated by the Fiji Girl Guide Association this week.
They learnt basic sewing skills throughout the three-day empowerment training workshop organised by the association before graduating on Thursday.
Workshop participant Litiana Matalau said the empowerment training workshop built her confidence as a woman, especially in helping her children.
Ms Matalau said more programs needed to be introduced to women who needed it, especially those living in HART homes.
Minister for Women Rosy Akbar said the ministry had the mandate to a holistic approach to the development of a strong, resilient generation of women.
“I believe women are agents of change and within such a politically-enabling environment, and I applaud the Girl Guide Association for embarking on a new project through this training workshop,” she said.
