WOMEN in this country need to feel safe and protected in their homes instead of being subjected to sexual abuse by their family members.
This was the comment made by Nausori Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne when sentencing a 28-year-old farmer who was convicted of one count of indecent assault.
The court heard the man entered his cousin’s home and indecently assaulted her at 4am on January 19, 2018, in Nausori, while intoxicated.
Magistrate Somaratne has sentenced the man to 16 months, out of which he will serve 10 months in prison and the remaining six months suspended for three years.
