A 20-year-old woman in Nadi has come up with a unique start-up business of creating handmade gifts for all functions.

Divyashni Kumar said her love and passion for artwork was always there but she only took it seriously from 2019.

“Ashni’s Gift Ideas Fiji started when I made a gift, an ‘Explosion box’ for my mum’s birthday and that was the beginning of my journey,” she said.

Ms Kumar said she only used local materials and her clients would usually ask her to create something unique and beautiful for their loved ones, especially on birthdays, Valentine’s Day, wedding anniversaries and deaths.

“I usually have an in-depth talk with the clients and then I have a fair idea of exactly what they want and every gift item that I make is different from the ones that I have previously made.”

Ms Kumar said her clients had included people all over Fiji, Australia, New Zealand and India.

“After Year 13, I wanted to pursue software engineering in New Zealand but the pandemic has halted my plans so in the meantime, I have found something that keeps me busy and allows me to utilise my skills and talents,” said Ms Kumar.
