A 34-year-old woman appeared at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday charged with one count of theft.
It was alleged the woman tried to load bags of groceries, valued at $623.73, into a waiting taxi at New World IGA Supermarket in Damodar City on April 29, 2021, without paying for the items.
Resident magistrate Kashyapa Wickramasekara granted the woman a bail bond of $2000 and ordered her not to re-offend, not to interfere with prosecution witnesses and not to leave the Suva area.
After the charge was read and explained to the woman, she opted to apply for Legal Aid counsel and her plea hearing has been deferred to May 31.
