A LAUTOKA woman who lost her husband during the Christchurch massacre said meeting New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern had given her closure.

Saira Patel’s husband Imam Hafiz Musa Patel died after the Christchurch terror attacks in March last year.

“It’s been almost a year since I lost my husband and it hasn’t been easy,” she said.

Mrs Patel said meeting Ms Ardern at the Lautoka mosque where her husband served as a priest would help her through the healing process.

Ms Ardern said she would never forget the days that followed the attack.

“While I will never know your pain, I carry with me many memories from that day and the days that followed,” she said.

“I still recall visiting the hall the day after the attack where hundreds of members of the Muslim community gathered.

“Amongst them was Mrs Patel.

“I still remember talking with you Mrs Patel as you desperately looked for your husband, your Imam.”
