Wheelbarrow race attracts interest

A total of 18 organisations took part in the annual Frank Hilton Wheelbarrow race held at the Albert Park in Suva this morning.

Frank Hilton Organisation’s Chief Executive Sureni Perera acknowledged the support shown by each organizations.

“When it comes to funding its not always consistent but we have always had the support of our partners and corporate organisations who have supported us so the difficulties were consistency in funding,” she said.

“So having the race for over four years now has helped us to ensure us that we have consistent funding coming in.”

She said there has been an increase in the number of organizations who are taking part in the event.

“We have 18 teams this time and we engaged our partners which include Habitat for Humanity Fiji, Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation,” she said.

Minister responsible Mereseini Vuniwaqa acknowledged the participants for the efforts shown in supporting this worthy course.

“You are all winner this morning because you have come out in numbers to support such a worthy cause which is the heart of the organisation,” she said.

Permal’s construction won the  race for the first time this year  and site foreman Shamal Chand said he reminded the his co-workers if they honored God he would support them.

“This is what they have been doing for the past four months, we continue to honour God for without him we would not have been able to win this race today.
