ENERGY Fiji Limited has called on the people of the Western Division to be considerate when lighting fires in the vicinity of wooden power poles.
EFL chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said this had been an ongoing issue that had led to disruptions in power supply.
“There have been many instances and this happens practically every year. People are lighting fires in the vicinity of Energy Fiji Limited’s wooden poles and as a result, many of these poles have caught fire and this has resulted in the disruption of power supply to our customers,” Mr Patel said at a press conference in Suva today.
He has requested members of the general public to be mindful and considerate before lighting fires in the vicinity of wooden power poles.
“Please, we are humbly appealing to you, be very considerate. Do not burn cane which is in the vicinity of EFL power poles because this is causing us a lot of harm in terms of time outage, power outage to customers and costs.”
The EFL head also requested its customers on Viti Levu to use electricity wisely in the coming weeks as rainfall at the Monasavu damn area has been below average compared to previous years.
