THE Port of Lautoka was a buzz of activities last week as the Crystal Symphony graced the Sugar City early in the morning for passengers to have a feel of what life in Lautoka was all about.

The beautiful cruise ship, owned and operated by Crystal Cruises of the Bahamas, carried 700 passengers and is on a 114-day cruise around the world.

Friends Jonathan Hawkins and Sarah Hayes said leaving the cold climate of New York and visiting “sunny” Fiji was a welcome escape.

The two were among the hundreds of visitors who visited Lautoka when cruise liner Crystal Symphony docked at the Sugar City last Thursday.

Ms Hayes said, this was their second visit to Fiji and they made sure to return because they have had a feeling of what Fiji’s beauty was like on their first visit.

“We first came to Fiji on board the Crystal Symphony’s sister vessel, the Crystal Serenity,” she said.

“We love it here, it’s beautiful, especially the islands, the water, the people and the friendly atmosphere. We’re from New York and it is snowing there and here, it’s sunny and a tropical atmosphere.”

Ms Hayes said they were travelling with friends on a sea journey that would take them to numerous countries across the globe.

“We are on a world cruise and we started in Africa and made it to Australia and New Zealand afterwards and arrived here today (last Thursday) and we love it here.

“We’re looking forward to going to the beach and having some fun in Fiji.”

She said their trip was expected to end in April.

The cruise liner departed Lautoka with tourists and passengers having a feel of the sunny Fijian warmth and beauty.
