Weight-lifting heads to visit

FIJI will play hosts to some of the very important persons (VIP) from the International Weightlifting Federation.
Fiji Weightlifting president Atma Maharaj said the interest portrayed from the international body was a testament to the improving performance in the sport in the region.
Among leading international officials to visit Fiji during next week’s Oceania Weightlifting Championship are IWF president Dr Tamas Ajan, OWF president Marcus Stephen, European WF president Dr. Antonia Urso, IWF vice president Jose Quinones, Asian WA general secretary Mohammed Jalood, IWF vice presidents; Sam Coffa, Dato Ong Poh Eng and Major General Intarat of Thailand along with IWF director general Attila Adamfi.
“This will also be a great opportunity for Fiji to showcase its capability to host such international event” Maharaj said.
The 2016 Oceania Weightlifting Championships, which doubles as the Olympic Games qualifier will be held at the Vodafone Arena from Tuesday, May 24 to May 28.
