KEEP your raincoats and umbrella in handy while going to cast your votes today!

This comes as a strong wind and heavy rain warning for most parts of Fiji in place with a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain affecting the group.

The Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) says the risk of flash flooding and flooding of low lying areas is elevated from tomorrow until Thursday.

In its latest update released yesterday afternoon, all communities living in the flood prone and landslide areas have been requested to remain alert as heavy rain is predicted in the coming days.

“Members of the public are advised to keep away from flooded drains whilst motorists are requested to take extreme care when driving in adverse weather conditions,” director meteorology Ravind Kumar said.

Gradual clearance from the west is expected from Thursday night and into Friday.

The Fiji Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Any alert and warning will be issued as and when necessary in the coming days. Members of the public are reminded to keep updated with the latest weather information and take alerts and warnings seriously whenever issued.
