Weather watch: Strong wind warning in force for southern Lau

A strong wind warning is now in force for the land areas of Ono-i-Lau.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has advised that tropical disturbance 11F lies slow moving over the southeastern parts of the Fiji group and directs strong winds over of southern Lau.

It adds the associated trough of low pressure lies just to the south of Fiji and is expected to gradually drift north and lie over the country by later tomorrow.

The forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group – the land areas of Ono-i-Lau has been advised to expect southeast winds with average speed of 45km/hr, gusting up to 55km/hr.

The weatherman has forecast winds to become predominantly northerly later tomorrow.

For mariners, expect rough to very rough seas.

For the land areas of the rest of the Lau and Lomaiviti groups – expect moderate to fresh southeast to northwest winds; and winds becoming predominantly northerly later tomorrow; and moderate to rough seas.
