A STRONG wind warning is now in force for land areas of the Lau Group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, southern Viti Levu and the Lomaiviti Group.

According to the latest weather report from the Fiji Meteorological Services, a heavy rain alert is also in force for the Yasawa and Mamanuca Group and the eastern half of Viti Levu.

The warnings are caused by a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and showers that lie slow moving over the country.

Meanwhile, a high pressure system to the far southwest of Fiji directs a strong southeast wind flow over the group.

Residents in these areas should expect occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms over the Yasawa and Manauca group, eastern and interior parts of the larger islands.

Rain is expected to become frequent and heavy from tomorrow.
