Weather watch: Strong wind warning for Lau, Kadavu

A STRONG wind warning is now in force for the land areas of Southern Lau group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

The weather bulletin issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 5:30am todays says a trough of low pressure lies over the northeastern parts of the group.

Associated cloud and showers are to affect the country.

The forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group over Southern Lau group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands expect southeast winds with average speed of up to 50km/hr.

Rough to very rough seas with occasional showers, heavy at times and few thunderstorms.

As for the rest of the group there will be moderate to fresh southeast winds with moderate to rough seas.

Occasional showers and few thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Yasawa group, Lomaiviti group and the eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu.

Elsewhere cloudy periods with some showers and isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
