Weather watch: Strong wind warning for Fiji

A STRONG wind warning remains in force for all land areas of Southwest Viti Levu, Kadavu, Lau, Lomaiviti Group, Yasawa, Mamanuca Group and is now in force for Northern Viti Levu, Southern Parts of Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller Islands.

The weather bulletin issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 3:30pm today says a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and showers lies to the northern parts of Vanua Levu.

The trough is expected to gradually drift south and merge with another trough approaching from the west affecting the Fiji group from Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a high pressure system to the south of Fiji continues to direct a fresh to strong easterly wind flow over the group.

The forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group expect occasional showers and isolated heavy falls over the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group.

Elsewhere, cloudy periods with showers especially in the afternoon or evening.

Strong east to southeast winds with an average speed of 40km/hr gusting to 60km/hr over Southwest Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, Northern Viti Levu, Southern parts of Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands.
