Weather watch: Heavy rain warning remains; risk of flash flooding

A heavy rain warning remains in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group.

A heavy rain alert remains in force for the rest of the Fiji group.

According to the special weather bulletin number fourteen for heavy rain issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi this morning, the associated trough of low pressure lies slow moving over the group with cloud and rain bands affecting most parts of the country till Friday.

The forecast for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group expect occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms.

Rain becoming frequent and heavy with squally thunderstorms from later today.

For the rest of Fiji group expect occasional rain and few thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls.

Rain becoming frequent and heavy with squally thunderstorms later on Wednesday.

Possible impacts:

– risk of flash flooding of low lying and flood prone areas during persistent localised heavy falls.

– risk of flooding of small rivers, creeks and roads.

– poor visibility on roads in areas of heavy rain for motorists.

– reduced visibility at sea.
