MEMBERS of the general public are advised to exercise caution as a heavy rain warning remains in force for parts of the country.

A statement issued by the National Disaster Management Office today is advising pedestrians and motorists to refrain from walking or driving through floodwaters.

“Though shallow and still in appearance, floodwaters may be deeper and faster flowing and may contain dangerous debris,” the NBMO warned.

“Flooding can also erode or wash away road surfaces creating potholes or uneven surfaces, which may not be visible.”

Members of the public are advised to continue to monitor weather bulletins and forecasts on the radio or on the Fiji Meteorological Services Website at www.met.gov.fj
