Weather watch: Heavy rain warning for Fiji

A HEAVY rain warning is now in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group, Yasawa group and the eastern half of Viti Levu.

The weather bulletin issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 3:30pm today says a trough of low pressure remains slow moving over Fiji.

It is expected to affect the group till tomorrow.

The forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group expect periods of rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group, Yasawa group and the eastern half of Viti Levu.

Elsewhere, occasional rain and isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms with heavy falls.

Rain is expected to gradually ease to showers from the west later tonight.

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.

For mariners expect moderate to fresh north to easterly, becoming predominantly southerly

later tomorrow and moderate to rough seas.
