A heavy rain alert remains in force for the eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands and Lomaiviti group and is now in force for the Western half of Viti Levu.
The weather bulletin issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi this morning says a trough of low pressure remains slow moving to the north of Vanua Levu.
It is expected to gradually drift south over the group from today as it merges with another trough approaching the group from the west.
Associated cloud and showers to affect the group from later today.
The forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group expect some showers with isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls expected over the eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands and Lomaiviti group.
Elsewhere, cloudy periods with isolated showers and afternoon or evening thunderstorms with heavy falls expected.
Showers becoming frequent and heavy from later today.
Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.
For mariners, expect moderate to fresh easterly winds with moderate to rough seas.
The outlook for Sunday, occasional showers and few thunderstorms over most places.
