Weather watch: Heavy rain alert remains for Fiji

A HEAVY rain alert remains in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Lau, Lomaiviti group, Yasawa group and the Eastern half of Viti Levu.

The weather bulletin issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 10:45am today says a trough of low pressure remains just to the north of Vanua Levu and is expected to gradually drift south later today.

Associated cloud and showers affects the country.

Meanwhile, another trough of low pressure approaches the group from the west and is expected to affect Fiji for the next few days.

The forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group expect occasional showers and few thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, eastern half and interior parts of Viti Levu, Lau, Lomaiviti group and the Yasawa group.

Showers are expected to increase and become frequent and heavy later today.

Elsewhere, cloudy periods with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.

Showers expected to become frequent tomorrow.
