Weather watch: Flood alert remains for Naqali low-lying areas

A FLOOD alert remains in force for all low-lying areas adjacent to Naqali station in Naitasiri.

This was revealed in a weather bulletin issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 10:56am, which also says that a heavy rain alert remains in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Lau, Lomaiviti Group and Viti Levu.

The bulletin says a trough of low pressure remains slow moving over Fiji.

It is expected to affect the group for the next few days.

The forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group, expect occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni , Viti Levu, Lau and Lomaiviti group.

Rain becoming frequent from later today and elsewhere, cloudy with some showers and isolated afternoon heavy falls and thunderstorms likely.

Showers expected to become frequent from tonight with isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls.

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low-lying areas.

For mariners, expect moderate to fresh easterly winds with winds expected to gradually become North to Southeasterly tomorrow and moderate to rough seas.
