The Fiji Meteorological Service says environment conditions will be favourable for a tropical cyclone development in the region next week.

The weather office stated “some active weather” for the region was expected next week.

“Development of one or two low pressure systems that may deepen into tropical disturbance, depression and may or may not eventually become a TC (tropical cyclone),” said acting principal scientific officer forecasting Sakeasi Rabitu.

“Time and location of formation and path is still uncertain for now.

It will be more definite as we head into early next week. “When and where and the path to be taken is not definite yet.”

He said the weather office was monitoring a trough over Vanuatu which was expected to move east and affect the Fiji Group from Sunday or Monday.

“It will bring occasional rain, heavy at times and thunderstorms.”
