The Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team were weak in defense that cost them the semi-final match against South Africa 31-12 in Sydney.

Fiji had an early advantage but opted for a scrum which they failed to win and South Africa capitalized on that resulting a converted try.

Leading 7-0, Fiji again failed to showcase their performance even when they had possession and they struggled to break the Blitzboks solid defense.

South Africa scored another two tries, the boys were tired and were struggling in the first half as they were behind 17-0 to first half.

Fiji came back strong in the second half, coming up with big attacks that flustered the South Africans before Iowane Teba scored their first try in the corner.

Trailing 17-5, a comeback was a must but the springboks were too strong as they ran in two successive tries capitalizing from Fiji’s mistakes.

Vuiviawa Naduvalo had the last say with a try but it wasn’t not enough.

Meanwhile the Fijiana went down to Australia 36-12 for the fifth place at Allianz Stadium.

They beat Japan 40-7 in the fifth place semi-final after losing out to Ireland in the quarter-final.
