Water carting request

THE Commissioner Western’s office has received requests for water from some maritime areas in the Western Division.

Divisional planning officer Sitiveni Tavaga said they would monitor the situation first before carting water to areas experiencing dry weather.

Mr Tavaga said Vatulele was an area they helped because of the lack of rainfall on the island.

“According to the Fiji Meteorological Office, we will be experiencing dry weather,” he said.

“It might not be the same as last year but we are going to prepare for it.”

Mr Tavaga said they had delivered water to some maritime areas last month.

“We did that last month to Vatulele, which has four villages, but we’ll do that again because they have not had any rain until now.

“By November, we’ll do another water carting.”

He said Vatulele was home to about 700 people.

Mr Tavaga said apart from the villages, their priority were schools and government stations.
