WARDENS Gold will be aiming for a hat-trick when the side participates in the Martintar 7s which kicks off at Prince Charles Park in Nadi this Friday.

The Wardens lifted the cup title during the Martintar 7s back to back in 2016 and 2017.

Big interest in the tournament has forced the organisers to increase the number of teams from the original 32 to 40.

Martintar 7s committee member Timoci Waqaniburotu said all pool matches would be completed on Friday.

He said renowned teams such as McDonalds Saunaka, Nawaka, Ratu Filise and Yamacia were among the favourites for the cup winner’s purse of $5000.

“There is a lot of hype for the tournament which is in its fifth year,” Waqaniburotu said.

The organisers have joined the government’s campaign on climate change with the theme of protecting the environment to protect us for this year’s event.

Part of the funds raised from the two-day tournament will be used for clean-up programs to give Nadi a better image.
