YOUTH activist Peter Waqavonovono has applied to be a candidate for the Social Democratic Liberal Party for the upcoming general election.
Mr Waqavonovono confirmed this yesterday, saying he was ready to contest the polls under a SODELPA ticket and hoped his application would be considered.
“I have officially applied to be a SODELPA candidate in the 2018 general election. I sent my expression of interest today (yesterday),” he said.
Mr Waqavonovono showed his interest to join the party last week after seeking an audience with party leader and former prime minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
Mr Waqavonovono, who was the president of the party’s youth wing, left the party two years ago in protest of Mr Rabuka’s selection as the party leader because of his ties to Fiji’s coup culture.
However, the vocal activist has decided to put his differences with Mr Rabuka aside.
“After meeting with Mr Rabuka recently, and speaking openly about my reservations, I conclude that he is not the Rabuka of 1987,” he said.
