TEAM Fiji youngest body builder Ariva Waqa says age does not matter when an athlete has a passion to win.

The Kade, Koro, Lomaiviti lad will be taking part in the 70 kilogram category in the 24th South Pacific Bodybuilding Championship 2018 at the Grand Pacific Hotel tomorrow.

The 16-year-old is a student of Lelean Memorial School and is looking forward to his first regional competition.

“When I was a young boy, my grandfather who is my mum’s dad, always take part in the Mr Fiji competition. I loved watching him,” Waqa said.

“Whenever he returns home, he always encourage me to try the sport and then after two years he passed away.

“I decided to try it. I trained every day at the gym. I am also a member of the LMS under-18 rugby team. “Joining Fiji body building was through a friend Inoke Vunidilo. I told him that I was interested. I tried and I got selected,” he said.

He is expected to be one of the youngest athletes in the tournament. “My plan is to keep training and see how my first attempt in this competition goes.

“I am positive that I will perform better and I will learn from the other athletes who have been taking part especially the two veterans who are also part of the team.”
