Waqa calls for discipline

FORMER Fiji sevens team coach Eddie Waqa has cautioned players about discipline on the field ahead of the third leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series next week.
Waqa said Fiji was a champion side in sevens rugby and it was crucial for players not to be intimidated by opponents.
“Fiji is a champion team and has matured, champion players. We will need cool heads and respect for opponents,” the former dual international said.
“I think the team is still very strong. The good thing about the team is consistency from last year as we have been able to maintain the experienced players.
“We have some new players and I expect them to blend well.”
With strong support expected from the local Fijian community in Las Vegas and Vancouver, Waqa said coach Ben Ryan’s boys needed to use it to their advantage.
“I wish them luck,” he said.
Waqa was Fiji sevens team coach in 2011 and 2012.
Addressing the issue of speed, an important factor which favoured teams like New Zealand, United States of America and South Africa over Fiji, he said Ryan needed to establish stronger systems.
“It has been hard luck for us in some games because of speed,” Waqa said.
