Wake up people

Now not wanting to say “I told you so”, but the reality of global warming reared its ugly head on Tuesday morning with the landslide on the Queens highway.

I believe this is a direct result of our negligence in not taking care of mother Earth and also the bigwigs in not ensuring there is proper drainage all over the country.

Let’s forget about being on par with the rest of the world and tackle the simple issues, about putting our rubbish in the bin, providing proper drainage, not only for the urban areas but the rural as well, as it also contributes to flooding and the ripple effect will be felt all over the nation.

On Tuesday, businesses lost money because of the landslide, some could not come to work, thus losing a day of work, children could not attend school, others had to find accommodation when travelling from the West to Suva, thus spending more money on fuel and food.

Also, we need to advise those planting on the hills to at least make proper drainage as we are loosening up the soil every time we uproot or dig up our crops.

So come on people, wake up and do something and let’s not all complain, a wise man from Ra once said ” if you want to change the world, start by changing yourself first”, do the little things right, put your rubbish in the bin and we can move forward from there and hopefully curb these types of incidents.
