THE Water Authority of Fiji says it is not ready to make any statement regarding the alleged protest by a group of men from a landowning unit of Colo-i-Suva Village at Savura Dam in Wailoku.

This has been confirmed by the authority’s communications officer, Peni Shute, when a follow-up phone call was made to him today regarding questions relating to the matter that were sent to him via electronic mail yesterday.

He requested if they could be given more time before they release a statement tomorrow.

The 12 men belonging to the Yavusa Duanuku of the mataqali Valebure were taken in for questioning by police at around 11am yesterday for alleged criminal trespassing at the dam area.

Meanwhile, Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said only a juvenile had been released while 11 men were still being held in police custody at the Criminal Investigation Department in Toorak, Suva.

Head of Mataqali Taitusi Rokocua claims they are protesting for the compensation to the landowning unit which had been unpaid for decades since the 1960s.
