WAF: Boil and store drinking water

Listen to this article:

FIJIANS are being urged to boil and store drinking water for consumption as the adverse weather may affect the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF)’s services in some areas.

This is light of another tropical depression which is expected to turn into a cyclone and Fijians are being urged to store drinking water.

WAF CEO Barry Omundson said their teams will once again work around the clock to maintain good water supply throughout Fiji,
however, they ask that all Fijian families be prepared and take every precaution.

“As with TC Sarai, water carting trucks are on standby and will be deployed as needed to impacted areas, with high priority given to hospitals.”

“We now have generators on standby to provide electricity to our systems, as many of the issues were because of power cuts during TC Sarai. As an organisation, we must constantly evolve and improve our services to Fijians,” said Mr Omundson.

For further inquiries as well as water carting requests, Fijians can call 334 6777 and 5777 (Vodafone, Digicel & Inkk users) or email contact@waf.com.fj

Fijians can also contact the WAF Facebook page: www.facebook.com/WaterAuthorityofFiji/

Adverse weather can cause problems such as:
– Clogging of the water intakes.
– Burst mains.
– Water treatment problems due to extremely high turbidity levels.
– Electricity supply issues.
