FIJI Day celebrations came a day earlier for the people of Vuya district and the students of Vuya District School in Bua after they witnessed the opening of their brand new classroom block today.

This also included the school’s new duplex and a single quarters replacing those that were damaged during TC Winston.

Officiating at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said other classrooms in the school were also refurbished after they were damaged by TC Winston.

Mr Bainimarama said the new school and teachers quarters were built to standard and meant to withstand tropical cyclones.

Sixty new desks and chairs were also handed over.

“Making primary and secondary education free in Fiji remains my proudest achievement, and days like today, seeing your school full of students so excited and willing to learn, is another wonderful example of why investment in our students – and in their potential – is so important,” Mr Bainimarama said.
